Day 3 With Trimet: Elke

Today we met with member of Trimet before getting the exciting opportunity  to preview the new max line and pedestrian bridge. The most interesting parts of the experience to me was getting to learn about the history of Portland and how access to transit used to be far more equal on a socioeconomic level. But has cars became a more relevant thing the imbalance grew, and now the city of Portland is working to regain that equality, using exciting innovative techniques.
on another note i couldn’t help but notice as we rode on the max line to see obviously impoverished areas on one side of the river and incredibly wealthy areas, at the height of city development on the other. The new max line gave me a sense of hope for increased opportunity for these area but hopefully greater development. It was still sad to such extreme wealth disparity.
